<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->A BUSINESSMAN who wielded a spanner at a woman and smashed the windows of a car was jailed, fined and banned from driving for 15 years yesterday.
Khoo Wei Chyi, 33, pleaded guilty to holding a spanner and charging towards hairstylist Poh Wan Ning, 21, along Queen Street in March last year with the intent of causing her alarm.
He also admitted to breaking the front left window and rear left window of the car of Mr Kenneth Zhang Guoqiang, 24, with the weapon, causing $810 in damage.
The other offences were for driving while under a 10-year ban, plus driving without insurance and without the owner's consent.
The court heard that on March 28 last year, Khoo was having drinks with his friends at a club on Purvis Street, near North Bridge Road. Miss Poh was also there with her friends.
Khoo's lawyer, Mr Lim Swee Tee, said a woman from the businessman's group had apparently quarrelled with one of Miss Poh's friends over queue- jumping at the toilet.
But Miss Poh's group claimed that Khoo had tried to befriend one of the women instead.
The hairstylist later left in the car driven by Mr Zhang. Khoo drove up and stopped next to their car at a junction.
He alighted and charged towards the victim with a spanner, and then used it to hit Mr Zhang's car.
Khoo has since paid Mr Zhang for the damage. He was sentenced to eight months in jail and fined $3,800, in addition to the driving ban. Khoo had several previous convictions.
