Jody Ong Wei Qiang, 21, got his wish in a district court on Thursday when he was fined $2,000 for punching another youth in June last year.
Through his lawyers, Mr Sashi Nathan and Ms Tania Chin, he told the district court that he did not wish to be considered for probation.
The lawyers said as the general manager in his father's construction firm, Ong would be unable to adhere to the conditions of a probation as the business involved very long hours.
Probation usually requires the offender to stay indoors at home between 10pm and 6am.
The court heard that some of Ong's friends were involved in an altercation with Mr Vincent Lye Mun San, 23, at about 5.30am outside Club Nana at Magazine Road on June 30.
Mr Chen Ziyang, 21, recognised Ong as the ex-boyfriend of a woman he knew and went to ask Ong to stop the fight. Instead, Ong punched him.
