A 41-year-old man pleaded not guilty on Thursday to four counts of giving false information to the police and Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau.

Tan Hock Khin is said to have knowingly given false information to the police that an officer of the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) tried to get a bribe from him while conducting an inspection inside an apartment, managed by him, in return for closing the case.

The alleged false report was made at Kampong Java Neighbourhood Police Centre on March 24 last year.

The next day, he went to the CPIB and allegedly lied in a statement on the CEA officer's wrongdoing.

CEA files charges against unregistered property agent

A total of six charges have been filed against a 41-year-old man who allegedly presented himself as a real estate salesperson without being officially registered with the council.

The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) has filed charges against Tan Hock Khin for preventing inspectors from gathering evidence of the offences.

Tan was also earlier charged by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) with four counts of providing false information to the Police on one occasion and also to the CPIB three times.

CEA alleges that Tan was not registered as a salesperson with CEA, but held himself as one to the public in online advertisements.

He also carried out estate agency work without first obtaining an agreement from a licensed estate agent for him to practise.

The council also says that Tan had prevented CEA inspectors from lawfully carrying out their investigations by preventing entry into the premises and hindered their efforts to gather evidence.

In a press statement, CEA also says that Tan provided false information and failed to provide required information when told to.

Consumers are advised to engage salespersons who are registered with CEA.

Registered salespersons should have a registration number, which should also tally with the CEA's Public Register.

The CEA added that the public should inform the council of any encounters with salespersons who are not listed on the register.

Those who tell lies in order to frame someone or fabricate a case against any innocent person or civil servant, don't deserve an iota of mercy from fellow human beings. They deserve to suffer in this world and later, hopefully burn in the fire pits of HADES.

The anguish and humiliation innocent people go through is something that can only be fathomed by those that have been victims themselves.

The police and CPIB officers should investigate diligently all such complaints and charge the LIAR in court.

As for thoe victims, there should be avenues for them to seek damages on a personal basis for all the anguish, suffering, pain, despair and shame that they were made to go through due to such a complaint.

The same apply to all false allegation cases.
