Man on attempted robbery charge

A man was charged on Thursday with attempted robbery at a goldsmith's shop in Pickering Street.
Lim Kok Eng, 47, is accused of trying to rob Kim Poh Hong Goldsmith and Jewellers of an assortment of gold chains and bracelets worth $60,000 at about 5pm on Monday.
The charge says that he splashed kerosene onto the glass display counter and threatened to set fire to the premises.
He was remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric evaluation.
