A man is suing a medical centre in the UAE for losing his penis during erection treatment but the centre is blaming a German doctor for the error, the Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum reported on Friday. The unnamed man was admitted to the centre with an erection problem and had treatment involving the administration of a system inside his penis to help erection but it later caused complications, the paper said.
A German doctor at the centre, which was not identified, then performed another operation but it did not work and it ended up in the amputation of the penis and severe damage to the testicles, it said.
A court initially ordered the medical centre to pay damages of Dh1 million to the patient but he refused and appealed the sentence. An appeal court then set the compensation at Dh1.2 million but it was rejected by the medical centre on the grounds it was the German doctor’s fault.
"The supreme federal court turned down the sentence of the appeal court for a compensation of Dh1.2 million and referred the case for appeal again to take into consideration that it was an error by the treating doctor not the medical centre."
