His wife knew about his previous criminal record but did not know about his latest offences - until the cops came to nab him.
Muhammed Firdaus Amir Musa was on Thursday jailed six months for stealing 12 motorcycles in 2009. He got a further four months for riding while under disqualification.
The misdeeds of the 26-year-old surveyor, who had similar convictions in 2002 and 2006, came to light after his accomplice, Mohammed Nazeer Md Sultan, 22, was caught last year.
Investigations led police to the surveyor. In court, Muhammed Firdaus admitted to stealing 10 motorcycles with the other man, and two on his own.
All the thefts occurred between May and September 2009.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Kumaresan Gohulabalan said the duo would target motorcycles parked in multi-storey car parks.
Using a master key or the blade of a small scissors to start the ignition, they would take the motorbike for a joyride. When it ran out of fuel, they would abandon the bike.
All the motorcycles were recovered.
