A man, who arranged for 54 stolen Malaysian-registered cars to be shipped Port Klang in Malaysia through Singapore to Batam in 2003 was jailed 4 1/2 years on Friday.
Ng Chong How, 47, had pleaded guilty on Wednesday to five charges of receiving and disposing of stolen property.
A district court heard then that the 47-year-old Singaporean had been charged previously but was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal in 2004 because of lack of evidence. In June that year, his three accomplices were successfully prosecuted and the charges against Ng were resurrected.
Court documents state all of them worked together to receive the stolen cars and arrange for them to be shipped to the island of Batam in Indonesia. Between August and November 2003, they moved 54 containers, each carrying a car, mostly top-end Japanese models.
