Man jailed for sex with family friend’s underage daughter

SINGAPORE: A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years' jail for sex with a family friend's underage daughter.
Zainal Abidin Mayuni, now 45, admitted to five counts of the offence, when the girl was between 13 and 14.
Another six charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.
The technician had been close friends with the girl's family.
Between 2010 and 2011, the victim's mother sought the help of the accused to fetch her daughter from school every day. The mother was ill and was not able to do so herself.
But instead of sending the girl back to her home, Zainal Abidin brought her to his place.
His wife and daughter were not at home at the time of the offences.
He then asked the girl, who was still dressed in her school uniform, for sex.
The court heard that the accused gave the girl S$50 for her transportation and expenses.
The victim finally lodged a report as she was frustrated with the accused, who kept making the same request.
In May 2011, Zainal Abidin brought his wife and daughter to Batam.
Subsequently, he left for Pekanbaru alone, but was arrested for overstaying in Indonesia in August.
The accused is now divorced and has been given custody of his daughter.
He could have been jailed up to 10 years and fined on each charge. - CNA/gn
