Man jailed for pawning stolen jewellery
SINGAPORE: A 28-year-old man who instigated his 14-year-old girlfriend to steal her grandmother's jewellery and later pawned the stolen goods was on Tuesday jailed four weeks.
Sinivasu was convicted of disposing of stolen items amounting to almost S$9,000 over three days in May last year.
Court documents stated that he got to know the girl through Facebook.
He told his girlfriend he needed money and pestered her to steal the gold jewellery, which she agreed to.
They met up for the first time when the girl passed the stolen goods to him at Eunos MRT station.
They then took a cab to a Maxi-Cash outlet in Joo Chiat, where Sinivasu pawned the items.
The accused proceeded to do the same the next two times alone.
The prosecution proceeded on two of three charges.
Sinivasu could have been jailed up to five years and fined on each count.
The minor has been given a stern warning. - CNA/xq
