SINGAPORE: A man who helped his friend 'teach someone a lesson' by force was jailed six months and 10 weeks for assault and wrongfully confining the 40-year-old victim.
Rashpreet Singh Sidhu, 27, had agreed to help his friend, 40-year-old Adison Andeny beat up Mr Ahmad Hadi Edward.
The incident took place in September last year.
Andeny had wanted to teach his girlfriend's former boyfriend a lesson after she complained that the man, Mr Edward, had treated her poorly when they were together.
She had also told Andeny that she had spent about S$130,000 on Mr Edward. The amount included money for two car loans.
To help her get back her money, Andeny lured Mr Edward to a Punggol Place residence through his girlfriend, and assaulted him with the help of Rashpreet and another friend.
They questioned the victim for about five hours, from 12.20am.
The three men told the victim they would hold on to his car, and made him retrieve his motorcycle and apply for a bank loan before locking him up at his own residence in Teban Gardens.
For driving without a valid licence, Rashpreet was also banned from driving for two years from the date of his release.
The maximum penalty for wrongful confinement is a one-year jail term and a S$3,000 fine.
The other two men involved in the case have been dealt with. - CNA/nd
