Man jailed, fined for operating illegal gambling den

SINGAPORE: A man who operated an illegal gambling den has been sentenced to four months' jail and fined S$20,000.

Forty-year-old Tan Heng Chye was arrested on July 13 last year at Sims Avenue when police officers raided the premise.

Tan was the croupier at the illegal gambling den.

Police found eight jackpot machines and more than 20 computers loaded with online casino and jackpot games.

Further investigations showed that the premise was on lease under Tan's name.

Tan could have been jailed up to three years and fined up to S$50,000 for contravening the Common Gaming House Act.
