He was arrested with an arsenal of weapons including a samurai sword, four parangs and four knuckle-dusters. In addition, Paul Low Jun Cheng was carrying drugs. The 27-year-old had also been nabbed twice for driving while under disqualification.
He was sentenced on Monday to a total of two years in jail and six strokes of the cane and also disqualified from driving for two years.
Low had pleaded guilty last week. The court then heard that in December 2007 he was disqualified from driving until his parking offences were settled in court. Before this could happen, he was caught flouting the driving ban in November 2008. Seven months later in June 2009, he was nabbed again for driving illegally. Then on Dec 3, 2010, police arrested him with the weapons and drugs.
Two police officers spotted Low behaving suspiciously at Mayo Street at about 2.40am. While they were checking his particulars, he bolted down Jalan Besar leaving his sling bag behind. Near Sim Lim Tower, he swung the samurai sword at one of the pursuing officers before running into Dickson Road.
