Man jailed and fined for helping in common gaming house

A freelance IT technician was sentenced to two weeks' jail and a $10,000 fine on Friday for helping to manage a common gaming house.
Teo Choon Hock, 44, admitted to two charges of helping in the management of the common gaming house by applying for an Internet service provider licence (ISP) for two common gaming houses in Bedok Reservoir Road and Tampines Street 4 in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
The court heard that he offered to help his friend, Cheh Back Hai, apply for for ISP licences from the Media Development Authority for the latter's Internet cafes. He agreed to be paid between $40 and $60 for each application and to repair the computers.
Cheh's Internet cafes were in fact illegal Internet gambling cafes offering an illegal online casino game known as JV8.
