Man investigated for making false police report
Published on Nov 10, 2011

By Tham Yuen C

A man who lost his friend's gold chain is being investigated by the police for lying about being robbed by a group of people.

The 23-year-old employment pass holder had made a police report at around midnight on Thursday saying that he was robbed off his gold chain and $130 in cash by a group of people he did not know.

He said the suspects had confronted him at the void deck of Block 763, Yishun Avenue 4.

Police investigations later revealed that he had made the false report after losing the gold chain, which belonged to his friend.

Read the full story in Thursday's edition of The Straits Times.

Never let people who make false reports go scot-free for they cause lots of misery to innocent victims. A good example is a report of molestation.
So much publicity in the papers and then the realisation that the so-called victim made a false report. By then, the reputation of the "innocent suspect" had taken a severe beating.
Normally the fine for false report is low.
Parliamentarians, please consider re-enacting the old laws and introducing tougher penalties for such acts.
