Man investigated for lodging false report

SINGAPORE - Police are investigating a case of false police report lodged by a 42-year-old man.

On Nov 1, 2013 at about 7.25pm, the man called the Police reporting that he had been robbed of $300 by two unknown men along Bukit Batok East Ave 2.

Officers from Jurong Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigations, and eventually established that the alleged robbery did not happen at all.

Investigations against the 42-year-old are ongoing.

Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim commended his officers' investigative acumen and swift action in establishing the credibility of the report. DAC Lim warned that Police will take stern action against anyone giving false information to a public servant. Such incidences expend police resources that could otherwise be put to better use, and lead to delayed responses for actual emergencies.
