Posted: 09 February 2012 2137 hrs

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a man who passed himself off as a cop.

The 27-year-old suspect is believed to have committed theft and molest in Circuit Road.

On February 6, the suspect approached two young victims in the area and identified himself as a police officer by flashing a card.

He directed the victims to hand over their mobile phones and told them to collect them back from a nearby neighbourhood police centre the next day.

On the same day, the suspect molested a young girl at a staircase landing in Aljunied Road.

Police arrested the suspect on February 8 at 4.30pm along Paya Lebar Road.

If convicted of impersonating as a police officer, he could be sentenced to two years' jail, fined or both.

For theft, he could be jailed up to three years and fined.

For the molest charge, he could be sentenced up to two years' jail, fined, or caned.

A masseur is believed to have outraged the modesty of a 17-year-old girl on Monday.

Koh Kah Yong, 27, was charged on Friday with allegedly using criminal force to molest the victim at a staircase landing of a Circuit Road housing estate in Aljunied.

Through the court interpreter, he pleaded not guilty.

The judge granted the police prosecutor's request for Koh to be remanded for a week so as to allow police to investigate if he had committed other offences.

In a news release issued on Thursday, police said that the victim had followed a man who identified himself as a police officer to a staircase landing where the offence is said to have been committed.
