SINGAPORE: A company director pleaded guilty on Tuesday to 10 charges of hiring phantom Singaporean workers to inflate his foreign worker entitlement.
Lim Ong Long, 73, of Highsan Lim Enterprise made false declarations in work permit applications, saying he was making Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions to Singaporean employees to qualify for a hire quota to hire foreign workers.
Of the 30 charges against him for this, 10 were proceeded with and the remaining 20 were taken into consideration.
In addition, Lim also took S$6,000 each from 30 foreign workers to recover the cost of employing them.
The case will be heard again in court on October 21.
Mr Aw Kum Cheong, divisional director, Foreign Manpower Management Division of the Manpower Ministry, said his ministry will continue to identify such companies that infringe laws to distort the labour market.
He said foreign workers should also not be made to pay kickbacks to employers to be hired.
