DIONG Tiong Ngo, 52, paid the rent and some of the expenses for his lover and two children but after his coffee shop was repossessed by the Housing Board for redevelopment in 2007, he stopped doing so. Soon after, he also started squabbling with the 51-year-old Indonesian Chinese woman over money. On Nov 8 last year, he turned violent. When she threatened to break off the relationship, he picked up a chopper from her kitchen, chased her along the common corridor of her Ang Mo Kio flat and slashed her. Her 14-year-old son rushed to her aid and was slashed on his hands. While the teen looked on horrified, Diong lifted the mother's legs and flipped her over the parapet. She fell three floors to the ground. She suffered fractures to her spine and legs, as well as cuts to her head and arms and had to be hospitalised for 18 days. Her son, who was slashed on his arms and, was warded for two weeks. The court ordered the identities of the mother and her son not to be revealed. Diong, who is married with a daughter, 23, and a son 21, will be sentenced on Sept 29. The maximum sentence for each of the two offences is 15 years jail.
