SONGKHLA - Police on Friday arrested a man on suspicion of raping a student and stealing her valuables.
Police named the suspect as Wichai Chaisaena, aged 26. He was caught at a snooker club in Songkhla's Hat Yai district.
Wichai was believed to have been involved in three rape cases, police said.
One of his victims was a university student, whose name was withheld by police. She said the suspect on Oct 8 climbed up to her room on the fourth floor of a dormitory and used a knife to threaten her.
She said she begged for his mercy but he did not listen. He then sexually assaulted her even though she was menstruating.
She said Wichai also recorded the rape on his mobile phone camera to blackmail her. The attacker then ransacked her room, stole her gold necklace, gold ring and a mobile phone, and fled.
Police said Wichai denied all charges.
Other victims or witnesses have been asked to visually identify the suspect at Hat Yai police station.
