Man held for bid to bribe cop for couple’s release
KUALA LUMPUR: A man has to join his brother and girlfriend in the lock-up after he was arrested for trying to bribe a policeman with RM10,000 for their release from detention over a drug offence. Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the man had approached the policeman an hour after they raided a house in Salak South Garden at noon on Monday and found almost RM5,000 worth of drugs. A 24-year-old Chinese herbal medicine salesman and his 22-year-old girlfriend were also arrested during the raid on suspicion of trafficking the drugs.
ACP Wan Abdul Bari said the man had requested to speak to the officer in charge. “He then offered a bribe of RM10,000 to my men in return for the release of the two detained,” he said, adding that his men immediately handcuffed the 25-year-old man. ACP Wan Abdul Bari said both siblings were tested positive for drugs and that the elder brother was later handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for further action.
