A man was seen holding a sign in search of a "humane boss" outside a Beijing subway station after he was fired for skipping work to watch the World Cup, the Beijing Times reported on June 25, 2014.

A man holds a board with the words "Fired for watching World Cup, looking for humane boss" outside the Chongwenmen station of the Beijing No.5 Subway Line on June 25, 2014.

The forlorn football fan took sick leave on June 16 when he told his work unit that he caught a cold. He then reportedly stayed up late in the evening to watch Germany and Portugal face off in the early morning of the next day.

After the final whistle blew on Germany vs. Portugal, he talked about the match on social media.

His posts of football fandom were seen by one of the vice managers of the company where he was employed, who told him "no need to come to work."

The man appeared outside the Chongwenmen station of the Beijing No. 5 subway line, holding a sign that read "Fired for watching World Cup, looking for humane boss," hoping he could get a chance to satisfy both his love for football and his need of a paycheck.
