A regional executive of a company here was fined $3,000 on Wednesday for offering a bribe to a police officer.
Nicholas John Scaturro, 44, who is a permanent resident here, had admitted to offering $40 to Sergeant Abdul Syafiq Abdul Rahman in return for not taking action against him for an alleged offence of cruelty to animals on Dec 4, 2010.
The court heard that police went to the American's home at 1.50am that day after receiving a complaint of animal abuse from a pub goer, Mr Chua Wei Soon, who was at the pub below Scatturo's apartment.
The officers found Scaturro's Jack Russell terrier shivering in the bathroom and Scaturro smelling of alcohol. There was no evidence of animal abuse.
