Man fed bananas and laxatives to ‘recover’ smuggled gems
A MAN was forced to eat bananas and laxatives by the police so they could recover packs of smuggled jewellery inside his stomach, China Press reported. It said New Delhi police stopped the 43-year-old man, who had managed to pass through the Chennai airport immigration checkpoint after coming in from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The officers saw the man carrying two large bags at the airport, but his pained facial expression caught their attention. After initially telling the officers that he was suffering from piles, the man admitted that he had swallowed some RM200,000 worth of jewellery. The policemen sent him to the hospital, where a scan confirmed what the man had said.
The man said he had swallowed the jewellery which was packed in 42 condoms. He managed to pass out the items after he was given the bananas and laxatives. Investigations revealed that the suspect had been involved in smuggling jewellery into India three times previously.
