A man who operated Internet cafes was accused of running them as gambling centres and taking steps to ensure he would not get into trouble.
On Friday, Chua Chin Hoe, 55, was charged in a district court with 62 charges of giving $209,000 in bribes to five police officers and three individuals over a three-year period.
He also faces four charges for operating Internet cafes in Joo Chiat, Telok Blangah and Pearl Bank as common gaming houses.
He is accused of giving bribes - between $1,000 and $47,700 - to the officers between end-2005 and May 2007 in return for their help in police-related matters.
