An Iowa woman says her husband bit a dog to stop it from attacking her.
Caren Henry's nose was severely injured Thursday when a 50-pound Labrador mix ran out of a yard while she and her husband were walking their dog, the Des Moines Register reported.
Henry said the dog bit her abdomen and thigh then scratched at her eyes before chomping onto her nose, tearing it off.
"If I hadn't been wearing my sunglasses, I'm sure I would be missing an eye. If it had gotten ahold of my throat I'd be dead," she told the paper.
Her husband, Laine, tried to fight the dog off, but it kept attacking.
"He finally had to bite the dog on its nose, and it let loose," Caren said.
The dog belonged to a homeless man, the paper reported, but was being cared for by a Madrid, Iowa, resident. The dog is under quarantine.
Caren has started reconstructive surgery.
