A 25-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of cheating cases has been arrested.
He is alleged to have cheated them of mobile phones after claiming to have jobs for them.
He would contact them through online chat-rooms and offer them jobs, and then meet them.
He would then tell them that they had to subscribe to mobile phone lines of a certain model from any service provider to get the job, and subsequently take the phones from them.
The police received five reports from victims who had given him the phones, which cost more than $5,000 in total.
The offence, upon conviction carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine.
