MALAYSIAN Nanban reported that a man severed his sister's head publicly in Kolkata, North India, after suspecting that she was having an extra-marital affair with a rickshaw puller.
Mehtab Alam, 29, had apparently walked to the Nadial police station to surrender Nilofer Biwi's severed head along with a sword on Tuesday. He confessed to the crime and was arrested.
Police said Nilofer's parents had lodged a missing person's report after she had eloped with the rickshaw puller.
Police said Alam, a garment trader, found out that his sister, a mother of two children, was staying with the rickshaw puller. He went to his place, dragged her out in to the street and in full view of passers-by, chopped off her head with the sword.
It was reported that he lost his temper as his sister had brought dishonour to the family.
