Man arrested for taking illegal bets

SINGAPORE - A 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly taking illegal bets.
Voluntary Special Constabulary (VSC) officers were patrolling around Serangoon North Avenue 1 and questioned the man who was behaving suspiciously.
Officers discovered $1269 in cash, betting slips and two mobile phones containing records related to illegal public lottery betting on him.
The man was arrested. Investigations are on-going.
Anyone who bets with an illegal bookie may be fined up to $5,000, jailed up to 6 months, or both. liable on conviction to a fine up to a maximum of $5,000/-, or to imprisonment of up to six months, or both. Illegal bookies face a fine between $20,000 and $200,000, and up to 5 years' jail.
