Man arrested for series of thefts from vehicles in Bukit Merah

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man, who is believed to have committed a series of thefts from vehicles.
Between 1 and 7 April 2013, Police received several reports of theft which happened at carparks in the vicinity of Jalan Membina and Kim Tiam Place.
Following the reports, officers from the Crime Strike Force of Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre conducted extensive follow-up investigations which resulted in the arrest of the suspect at Bukit Batok Crescent on 17 April 2013 at about 10 am.
Items that were reported stolen, including two bottles of perfume, a pair of spectacles and a Global Positioning System device were recovered from the suspect's possession. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least three cases of theft from vehicles.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 18 April 2013 for Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of three years imprisonment, or a fine, or both.
Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Daniel Tan commended his officers for their good investigative work and excellent teamwork which led to the arrest of the suspect.
He advised vehicle owners to secure their vehicle windows and doors at all times, to avoid keeping valuables in their vehicles, and to refrain from leaving personal items and bags visible in their vehicle.
