Man arrested for mobile phone thefts

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 17-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of mobile phone thefts that took place in a school in Jurong West.
In a statement released on Thursday, the police said that a total of five reports related to the case were made from April 17 to 19 this year.
Following investigations, police officers managed to ascertain the identity of the suspect and arrested him on April 25 at around 5pm in the vicinity of Boon Lay Drive.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is a student of the school, and he is believed to have committed at least eight of such offences.
The suspect will be charged in court on April 27 for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of a maximum jail term of three years, or a fine, or both.
