SINGAPORE - A 29-year-old male driver was arrested by Traffic Police yesterday for his involvement in a hit-and-run accident in Ang Mo Kio.
At about 5.45am yesterday, a pedestrian was crossing at the signalised pedestrian crossing in front of Block 475 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 when she was hit by an unknown car.
As a result, she suffered serious head injuries and was brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
A witness came forward and gave a description of the car involved in the accident when the Traffic Police arrived at the scene.
The suspect was arrested within 5 hours of the accident.
Investigations are ongoing against the suspect for the offences of Causing Grievous Hurt under Section 338 of the Penal Code and Hit-and-Run offences under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Act.
Commander of Traffic Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong said: "Motorists involved in an accident have a legal duty to stop. They must never leave the accident scene. Where there are injured parties, the driver should render assistance such as summoning for an ambulance immediately. This could make a big difference between life and death."
