Man arrested for obscene act

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 40-year-old man who had exposed himself in the vicinity of West Coast Lane.

They received a report of the incident on February 14 at about 9.45pm.

Officers from the Clementi Police Division arrived at the scene and conducted a coordinated search of the suspect but to no avail.

Through the descriptions provided by the female victim and extensive follow-up investigations, the officers managed to trace and arrest the suspect on February 15 at about 9.50pm.

The suspect will be charged in Court on February 17 for an offence of Obscene Act under the Penal Code.

If found guilty, he can be punished with a jail term which may extend to three months, or with a fine, or with both.

Police have arrested a 40-year-old man who had exposed himself in the vicinity of West Coast Lane.

On Feb 14 at about 9.45pm, the police received a report of a man exposing himself in the vicinity of West Coast Lane. Within minutes, officers dispatched from the Clementi Police Division arrived at the scene and conducted a coordinated search of the suspect but to no avail.

Through the descriptions provided by the female victim and extensive follow-up investigations, officers from the Clementi Police Division managed to trace and placed the suspect under arrest in the vicinity of West Coast Lane on Feb 15 at about 9.50pm.

BACKGROUND STORY

DAC Yong advised members of the public to adopt the following measures in the event that they encounter similar unfortunate situations.

a) Try to stay composed;

b) Take note of the description of the perpetrator as much as possible, such as his appearance, clothing, height and other physical details;

c) Take note of the direction and mode of escape taken by the perpetrator; and

d) Call the Police as soon as it's safe to do so.

If found guilty of an offence of Obscene Act under Section 294 (a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, the suspect could be punished with imprisonment for up to three months, or a fine, or both.
