Man arrested for fire that destroyed three shops

SINGAPORE: A 42-year-old man has been arrested for a suspected case of arson.
Police said they were alerted to a fire at Blk 177 Bukit Batok West Ave 8 on Monday (July 14). The fire was raging in the wee hours of the morning, around the time of the World Cup final. It caused extensive damage to three shops located on the ground floor of the HDB block. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The man was arrested on Wednesday, and will be charged in court on Friday for the offence of Mischief by Fire, with intent to destroy a place. He faces up to 10 years' jail and a fine. - CNA/ly
