Man arrested for extorting nude photos from woman online
SINGAPORE: Singapore police have arrested a 19-year-old man for extorting nude photos from a woman online.
The suspect had allegedly sent an anonymous private message to the victim on a social networking website, saying he had found some of her nude photos online, and demanded that she send over more.
He allegedly threatened to post the nude photos that he had on websites and around the victim's neighbourhood if she did not comply.
Police said the woman filed a statement about the situation on August 10.
In a statement on Wednesday, police said that despite the suspect's anonymity, they managed to establish a lead which led to his identification.
On August 20, police arrested the suspect at his home at Tampines Street 42 for criminal intimidation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both the victim and suspect are not known to each other.
He had apparently come across the nude photos of the victim online, and had devised the plan to demand more of such photos from her.
Police said investigations against the suspect are ongoing.
Those found guilty of criminal intimidation can be jailed up to two years and fined. - CNA/ms
