SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 41-year-old Chinese man for attempted theft from an OCBC automated teller machine (ATM) at Bukit Batok East Avenue 3.
Officers arrested the man on Thursday at 4.30pm, after spotting him at Admiralty Link in a manhunt operation.
Police say they had established the suspect's identity from close circuit television (CCTV) images and evidence gathered at the scene of the attempted theft, together with extensive ground enquiries.
In a statement, police said on Monday at about 7.30am, they were informed that the external cover of an OCBC ATM along Bukit Batok East Ave 3 was found open.
They were also informed that two CCTV security cameras were covered with masking tape.
No cash was missing from the ATM.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had tampered with the ATM on Sunday and Monday.
In its operation on Thursday, police retrieved two T-shirts, a pair of jeans, a face mask, a pair of gloves and a roll of white tape, believed to have been used to commit the offence.
The accused will be charged in court on Saturday for attempted theft.
If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both.
Police said a court order will be sought to remand him for further investigations.
