Man admits to throwing killer litter out of 9th floor office

Posted: 28 February 2012 1709 hrs

SINGAPORE: A self-employed man has admitted to throwing killer litter out of his ninth floor office at Commonwealth Lane.

Lim Chong Gin, 40, was charged with throwing items including a computer processing unit, a money counting machine and 24 boxes of a cream, on October 10 last year, at about 3.00 pm.

Court documents stated that some items landed on an 8th floor unit just below Lim's office.

It's understood Lim was intoxicated when he committed the offence.

Lim faces a maximum jail term of six months, or a fine of up to S$2,500, or both.

In mitigation, Lim's defence lawyer said his client suffers from bipolar disorder.

He added that Lim was frustrated and upset at the time of the offence as he had to end his business and his good friend died about a month earlier.

The defence lawyer added that Lim is remorseful and that he is undergoing counselling at the Institute of Mental Health.

But the prosecution pointed out that Lim has previously been convicted of causing hurt and acting rashly.

Lim also faces another charge of criminal trespass.

He trespassed Mr Arnold Nicklaus D Cruz's property at Sentosa Cove on January 17 last year.

He could be jailed for up to three months or fined up to S$1,500, or both, on this count.

Prosecution said Lim had two other charges that were taken into consideration and they were committed during his probation for prior convictions.

As Lim has had numerous earlier convictions and no restitution to damage property has been made, the prosecution urged the court for a short custodial sentence for throwing killer litter and a fine for criminal trespass.

The case has been adjourned till March 22 for sentencing.
