Man, 60, beaten to death in robbery
IPOH: An elderly man was beaten and smothered to death during a robbery in Gopeng, about 20km from here.
Kampar OCPD Supt Abdul Aziz Salleh said four men entered the house of V. Perumal, 67, in Taman Gopeng Jaya around 2.30am yesterday and attacked him with metal pipes.
“The victim’s body was found with injuries to his head and face.
We believe the men also smothered him with a pillow after tying up his hands and legs.
“His wife, who was sleeping in another bedroom, was warned not to make any noise and left unharmed,” said Supt Abdul Aziz.
The men, he added, were believed to have entered the house through a backdoor while the elderly couple were sleeping.
“The suspects managed to flee with RM5,000 worth of jewellery and cash belonging to the couple.”
