Man, 55, arrested for armed robbery

Police have arrested a 55-year-old man yesterday. He is believed to have committed two cases of armed robberies.
In both cases, the suspect targeted female elderly victims, aged 66 and 73 years old respectively.
The arrest was made possible with the aid of police cameras near the residential unit.
On 30 April, a case of armed robbery was reported in the vicinity of Jalan Bukit Merah. This was followed by another report of armed robbery that occurred at vicinity of Indus Road on May 17.
In both cases, the suspect confronted the victims and pointed a sharp object at them before taking their gold chains.
Following the reports, officers from Tanglin Police Division went through the footages from the police cameras installed in the vicinity of crime reported.
Extensive ground enquiries were then conducted to identify and locate the suspect, who was arrested at the vicinity of Indus Road yesterday.
He will be charged tomorrow for armed robbery. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of between two and ten years, and also at least 12 strokes of the cane.
