SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 33-year-old man believed to be responsible for a series of mobile phone thefts from shops located in Jurong West neighbourhood estate.

A 27-year-old female victim had reported to the police on Feb 3 that her handphone was stolen by the suspect while she was attending to her customers. The suspect's act was captured by the store's CCTV camera.

The CCTV footage were disseminated to the officers in Nanyang Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC).

The suspect's identity was established through ground enquiries and extensive follow-up. The officers then arrested the suspect at his house on April 2 at about 8am.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least five other similar cases.

The suspect will be charged in court on April 4 for the offence of Theft in Dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the suspect faces an imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine.
