Man, 28, arrested for assault and robbery

SINGAPORE - A 28-year-old man was arrested at Yuan Chin Road on Thursday at about 8am, for allegedly robbing and assaulting a man on April 29.
In a statement to the media, the police said that the suspect had assaulted his 45-year-old male victim in a back alley at about 12.15pm, and robbed him of his cash.
If found guilty, the crime carries a jail sentence of between 5 and 20 years and more than 12 strokes of the cane.
The police also had some suggestions public to deter similar crimes:
Refrain from carrying excessive cash or jewellery with them, especially when they are alone and/or in secluded areas. People should also refrain from wearing or exposing their jewellery or monies in public that could potentially make them easy targets for crime.
Do not take the lift with strangers or persons who look suspicious.
Always be wary of their surroundings, especially of suspicious persons who could be following you.
When confronted, remain calm. Do not put up a struggle especially if the culprit is armed with sharp objects like a knife or pen knife. Instead, try to take note as much details of the culprit as they possibly can, such as his appearance, clothing, height and other physical description. Also take note of the culprit's direction and mode of escape.
Call the Police immediately at '999' as soon as it is safe to do so.
