Man, 18, arrested for series of theft

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 18-year-old man, who is believed to have committed a series of theft at a gym.
Police received several reports of theft at a gym located at Jurong East Street 31 between Feb 26 to March 4
Officers investigating the cases managed to obtain images of the suspect and disseminated it to ground officers. Through extensive follow-up, the suspect was apprehended by officers on March 5 at about 10.35 am.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had targeted belongings left unattended in open shelves located within the gym and is believed to be involved in at least four cases. A mobile phone reported stolen on March 4 was recovered from the suspect and seized as case exhibit.
The suspect will be charged in Court on March 6 for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 224 which carries a maximum jail term of three years imprisonment, or with fine or both.
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong commended his officers for their good investigative work and vigilance which led to the arrest of the suspect. He would also like to advise patrons of gyms to secure their valuables in lockers.
