The "madam" of a prostitution ring, who is said to have used electric shocks to force women to "work" for her, failed in her bid to be released from a two-detention order.
In Kuala Lumpur Wednesday, High Court Judicial Commissioner Zainal Azman Ab Aziz ruled that the detention order dated Dec 12 last year against Ra Himah from Myanmar was valid.
Ra Himah and her accomplice were said to have used violence, including using electric shocks, to force prostitutes to abide by their orders.

In his judgment yesterday, Justice Zainal Azman said the then Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh had taken into account facts in a report against Ra Himah before ordering her to be detained.
In the documents filed by the ministry, it was stated that Ra Himah and her accomplice had organised prostitution activities in Bukit Mertajam in Penang by forcing Thai nationals and local women into prostitutes since 1994.
Justice Zainal Azman said Wan Ahmad had signed the detention order in accordance with Section 4(1) of the Emergency (Public Order and Prevention of Crime) Ordinance 1969.
"It is clear that the minister had observed the facts in the investigations and have applied his mind properly to the facts when signing the order," he said in rejecting Ra Himah's application for her release.
He added that Ra Himah had failed to show the court that she has sufficient cause for her release.
Her lawyer Karpal Singh said he would file an appeal against the court ruling.
Under the detention order, Wan Ahmad had ordered that Ra Himah be detained at a rehabilitation centre in Batu Gajah for two years from Dec 12 last year to prevent her from committing any actions that would affect public order, to eliminate violence and to avoid crime involving force.
