Two men from Sabah, Malaysia, beat up and robbed a 35-year-old Singaporean in 2008. Mr Loh Ee Hui lost the $6 in his wallet, cellphone, ez-link card - and his life.
The attack was so severe he sustained two skull fractures. The security guard died in Changi General Hospital 4 1/2 hours later of severe brain injuries.
On Sept 26, Fabian Adiu Edwin, 22, was found guilty of murder. However, Justice Chan Seng Onn found that Ellarry Puling, 27, was only guilty of robbery with hurt.
The judge said that evidence indicated that the other Malaysian had agreed that Fabian hit the victim till he fell down - but not to the extent of killing him.
During the 10-day trial that ended in April 2011, Fabian insisted it 'just happened' that the blows landed on Mr Loh's head.
