PETALING JAYA: Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell may be a hotshot in his fighter jet but he is no match for the keris-wielding Malay warrior Mat Kilau when it comes to the box-office.Director Syamsul Yusof’s new movie Mat Kilau – Kebangkitan Pahlawan has grabbed the attention of Malaysian audience, and it’s reflected in its box office earnings.

The film earned RM12.2mil in just four days, Syamsul said in an Instagram post.

“Mat Kilau beat Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World (Dominion) at the (Malaysian) box office. Extraordinary,” the Munafik filmmaker wrote.

On Tuesday, he told The Star: “Yesterday (Monday) alone – and this is a working day, mind you – we made RM3.7mil. Yes, on a Monday! Can you imagine?”

Syamsul said Mat Kilau actually performed below his expectations on its opening day on June 23. But as more people watched it and shared their positive views of the film, it attracted more attention.

Although Syamsul is elated with the film’s success, what’s truly important to him as a filmmaker is the audiences’ takeaway from watching his movies.

“For me, I have achieved something good by putting out a movie that talks about our history,” he added.

Mat Kilau – a period film starring Datuk Adi Putra, Beto Kusyairy, Fattah Amin, Yayan Ruhan and Johan As’ari – tells one portion of the life of Malay warrior Mat Kilau, who fought against the British in the late 19th century.

It focuses on the time when Mat Kilau and his father, Tok Gajah, were said to have attacked the British military base with just 80 other fighters.

Author Nisah Haron told Bernama that one of the messages in Mat Kilau is about good leadership and “not being in a hurry when fighting the enemy”.

“It’s not a question of numbers but quality in action; following strategy and patience, clearly demonstrated by Mat Kilau.

“It is a role model for today’s young generation who always want something fast. But in fighting the enemy, patience and loyalty to the leader is important,” she added.
Syamsul, who also wrote much portion of the screenplay, said: “In my research, I realised that Mat Kilau did not only stand up for his nation but he also fought for the religion of Islam as well.

“As I learnt more about him, my respect and admiration for him deepened.”

In another Instagram video, Syamsul posted a montage of children imitating the silat moves they had seen in the film.

“One of my objectives with this film was for us to really know who Mat Kilau was, appreciate our own history and be proud of who we are.
“So, in that sense, my objectives have been met,” Syamsul said.
Netizens also praised the movie.
On Twitter, Irfan (@Marchfoward) was impressed by the actors’ performances in Mat Kilau especially the silat sequences.

Arif Akmal (@Angah2nd) tweeted that Mat Kilau is something Malaysians should be proud of as there are many lessons to be learnt from the film.

Tak tahu bahasa. Will wait for the Chinese dubbed version

3rd rate action sequences here

too much camera shaking like jewish hollywood i think most of these turd worlders are influenced by jewish hollywood

truth be told, as much as slanties are inferior, I got to give credit to hongkies (of the past) for one thing - in martial arts movies, action sequences, fight scenes, stunts, nobody else could match them

here's tiong child prodigy in hongkie movies

nowadays lousy buggers all around the world influenced by jewish hollywood, also lack talent and skills, produce subpar fight scenes lack martial arts skills talent pedigree no prodigious talent on display anywhere just lousy all around

what's with shaking cameras violently and sped up action sequences?

considering the tiong prodigy was only a child back then, hats off to him

miss those old hongkie flicks,

no where world wide do they come close (not present day hongkies not present day gooks tiongs or japs & certainly not coolie gene stinkies) to hongkies movies of past

Weird rewriting of history by the muuds. During the late 19th century, the British saved numerous Orang Asli from slavery by raiding muuds. That mat kilau was likely some slaver who was enraged that the British ended his livelihood as a slave catcher or slave trader of Orang Asli people.

Orang asli slaves? I can't believe. Sex slaves maybe..

Orang asli (and Malays) have low IQ and are lazy as fuck. That's why the colonial masters encouraged scores of Chinese 猪仔 and brought in keling prison convicts to work on plantations and construction

Here you go. The settler muuds and their sultans used to enrich themselves by catching indigenous Orang Asli to be slaves. The muuds lost a huge source of income when the British put an end to the slave trade in Malaya.

In those dog eat dog days, not only were the Malayan Malays forced to be slaves, they also used to own slaves too. In the 1870s, there was a war known as the Perang Sangkil that was fought between the Malay and Orang Asli. “Sangkil” was an Orang Asli term given to those who came from the Indonesian Islands, especially the Rawa and Mandailing, and it is said that it was the Sangkil that attacked and enslaved the Orang Asli.

During the conflict, the Orang Asli had to evade enslavement by constantly migrating from one place to another.
Those who dared to fight back were mercilessly killed. According to a book based on the Perang Sangkil events, Orang Aslis were frequently sold as slaves or concubines to Malay Pembesars.

Surprisingly, the culture of the Malay enslavement of Orang Asli was also observed and recorded by the British officials who were stationed here. Among them was the Perak Resident J.W.W Birch, whose famous assassination was still being taught in our sejarah books. He described the slave practice in Malaya as follows:

“… by which men and women of the country of the Sakkais or wild people of the interior are captured after being hunted down, and are then sold, and made slaves. There poor people, from what I’ve seen, are worse treated than any other slaves.” – J.W.W Birch wrote in his journal, quoted from Taming the Wild: Aborigines and Racial Knowledge in Colonial Malaya by Sandra Khor Manickam

We all learned that J.W.W Birch was killed because he was meddling in the affairs of the Malay Pembesars. Plus, he showed no respect to the Malay customs and traditions, as he even forcefully tried to change them. But at the same time, the slave trade was one of the traditions he was looking to put an end to, a fact that we will not find in our textbooks.

The retarded mats dont understand english well. Eveb the chjnks and the jndians laugh at them

What does understanding English got to do with anything?

Inferiority complex due to british colonialism?

Japs understanding of english is worse than m&ds.
Thai understanding of english is worse than m&ds.

in fact, in whole of asean, malaysian mastery of english is better than any other country. and I mean real country, not just a postage stamp sized country (to paraphrase a politician).

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — The epic historical film, Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan (Mat Kilau: The Rise of A Warrior) is heading to Indonesia cinemas starting Aug 31.
Director Syamsul Yusof told MalaysiaNow that Indonesian audiences will watch the film to see their action stars, namely Yayah Ruhian.

Known for starring in The Raid, The Raid 2: Berandal, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Indonesian silat star has also appeared in Malaysian action films such as Wira.
"I had fans of my films in Indonesia even before Mat Kilau,” the director said.

"Munafik 2 became the highest grossing Malaysian film in Indonesia at the time ... I am grateful to have support from the Indonesian cinemas and audiences.”

Mat Kilau broke Malaysian box office records when it became the fastest film to collect RM47 million in 11 days.
To this date, the film has collected almost RM96 million domestically after playing for 40 days.
This makes it the highest-grossing Malaysian film of all time, after Avengers: Endgame and Munafik 2.

for me there were a few major issues

1. too much shaking of the camera. shaky cameras used by jews in hollywood means all the more reason you should not be doing it. instead you copied. there's sth about slanties. they only know and only want to copy. can't explain why slanties do so.

2. fight sequences were sped up. don't see the point of that. the martial artists should have been naturally faster rather than speeding up fight sequences. which makes them horrendous to look at.

3. this i guess can't be helped. melayun never produced any civilization intellectuals, they had no culture civilization brains architecture history intellect glory cuisine empires or any thing of note.

in comparison all the notable civilizations of ancient era were spawned by the middle eastern region. however, for last 2000 years, they have been thoroughly dominated by romans and/or offshoots.

this can't be explained away unless they are genetically inferior.

you can write off 10, 20, 50 even 100 years of failure. maybe, if we are being extremely generous, we can write off 200 years of failure, of occupation under foreign rule or colonization. but 2000 years of failure against romans is not possible to be written off under any circumstances.

simple fact is the entire middle east north africa region was fully dominated by romans and/or offshoots for 2000 years. none, absolutely nobody, from the middle east north africa central asia balkan regions could EVER conquer rome in 2000 years. NONE whatsoever.

not the arabs. not the berbers. not the kurds. not the persians. not the turks. none whatsoever.

this is genetic inferiority at its very finest. no running away from that.

the closest comparison i can think of is the domination of CECA virus by their Muslim masters for 1000 years as admitted by saffron terrorist in chief.

this explains why middle eastern countries, to this day, can't publicly test ICBM and thermonuclear weapons.

genetic inferiority at work.
