A Malaysian man was fined $1,000 on Friday for mischief by damaging two pieces of brand new lingerie.

Lee Meng Xiang, 23, then a casino croupier, pleaded guilty to the offence at Tangs department store in VivoCity at Harbourfront Walk on Jan 26.

A magistrate's court heard that the store's security officer saw Lee taking two pieces of Triumph lingerie from the women's section and walking into a male fitting room.

About 10 minutes later, Lee walked out without the items.

The security officer checked the fitting room and found the lingerie lying on the floor. They were soiled with some whitish substance.

Investigations later revealed that Lee wore the corset and panty, worth about $200, and stained them while removing them.

Two other similar charges of damaging a set of Calvin Klein undergarments totalling $454 last October year were also taken into consideration during his sentencing. He has since made compensation to the store.

Lee, now jobless, could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined.
