Malaysia to ask Google to block clip
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is asking Google to block access to an anti-Islam video clip blamed for sparking mob attacks against United States embassies and consulates across the Middle East.
Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Dr Rais Yatim said authorities wanted the clip from the obscure film Innocence of Muslims removed from YouTube because of the "explosive commotions and repercussions at hand".
Meanwhile, in Kepala Batas, former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the government had done the right thing by seeking to block online viewing of the film.
"Anger has spread from nation to nation because of this film, causing tensions everywhere," he said when opening the Kepala Batas Umno delegates' meeting yesterday.
In Tumpat, Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat yesterday said: "I am upset with the incident as the action to insult the Prophet is something which we cannot accept."
Meanwhile, Bernama reported Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin as saying that they would launch a protest to voice their unhappiness with the film on Friday.
