PUTRAJAYA: Wisma Putra has summoned a senior official from the French Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to express Malaysia’s concern over the “growing hostility” against Islam, such as the publication of caricatures depicting Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement, Wisma Putra said it had summoned the chargés d’affaires of the French Embassy in Kuala Lumpur as Malaysia sought to express concerns over the “growing hostilities, hate speech and defamation of Islam”.

“During the meeting, the ministry reiterated Malaysia’s position to strongly condemn any inflammatory rhetoric and provocative acts that seek to defame Islam as the world has recently witnessed in the forms of populist speeches and publication of profane caricatures depicting the Holy Prophet Muhammad, ” it added.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pic) said the country “strongly condemns” inflammatory rhetoric and provocative acts that defame Islam.

“Malaysia is committed to upholding freedom of speech and expression as fundamental human rights for as long as these rights are exercised with respect and responsibility in order to not infringe or violate the rights of others.
“In this context, to denigrate and tarnish Islam’s Holy Prophet and to associate Islam with terrorism are certainly beyond the scope of such rights.
“Such an act is provocative and disrespectful towards Islam and more than two billion Muslims all over the world, ” he said yesterday.
Hishammuddin said as a democratic and moderate Islamic country with a multiethnic and multireligious society, Malaysia constantly promotes peaceful co-existence.
“Malaysia will continue to maintain harmonious relations, not only among people of different faith and convictions, but also in the context of the diverse global community, ” he said.
Hishammuddin’s statement comes amid a backlash across the Islamic world over French President Emmanuel Macron’s public remarks defending the right to
publish caricatures of Prophet Muhammad, which are considered blasphemous in Islam.
Macron’s remarks were made at a memorial event for secondary school teacher Samuel Paty, who was beheaded allegedly in response to showing his students caricatures of Prophet Muhammad as part of a lesson on freedom of expression.
Following the publication of the caricatures by satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in 2015,17 people were killed in Paris, including 11 staff members of the magazine.
Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional strongly condemned Macron’s remarks attacking Islam, Prophet Muhammad and the Muslim community.
Its information chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the inflammatory and disparaging remarks were absolutely unacceptable and should be denounced by all right-thinking people regardless of nationality or religion.
The French embassy in Malaysia said France did not favour or stigmatise any religion and guaranteed their peaceful co-existence within the laws and principles of the republic.
In a statement, the embassy said Macron did not target the Muslim community in France at all, but only “radical Islamism that should be isolated and fought”.
“The President clearly indicated that he would be intransigent concerning any generalisation, distinguishing the vast majority of French citizens of Muslim faith from the militant and separatist minority who are hostile to the values of the republic, and who are moreover a burden for the former, ” it said yesterday.

Singapore must also summon the Frenchie ambassador cos we have an Islamic symbol on our flag.....

Muslims have ‘right to punish’ French for past crimes, Dr Mahathir says amid violence in France | Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has suggested today that Muslims “have the right to punish” the French for their alleged wrongs committed against the community, amid escalating violence in France.

Posted just a few hours after a knife attack outside Nice, France that killed three people and injured others, the former prime minister said Muslims also deserve to be angry and a boycott against the republic will not even suffice.

“Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past. But by and large the Muslims have not applied the ‘eye for an eye’ law. Muslims don’t. The French shouldn’t. Instead the French should teach their people to respect other people’s feelings,” he wrote in his blog.

“Since you have blamed all Muslims and the Muslims’ religion for what was done by one angry person, the Muslims have a right to punish the French. The boycott cannot compensate the wrongs committed by the French all these years,” he added, directing his remarks to French president Emmanuel Macron.

In the post, Dr Mahathir also accused Macron of not being civilised and “primitive”, for allegedly blaming Islam and Muslims after a teacher was beheaded earlier this month in Paris for showing pupils cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a civics lesson.

“It is not in keeping with the teachings of Islam. But irrespective of the religion professed, angry people kill. The French in the course of their history has killed millions of people. Many were Muslims,” he wrote, but did not elaborate.

Dr Mahathir’s post came as a knife-wielding attacker shouting “Allahu Akbar” beheaded a woman and killed two other people in a suspected terrorist attack at a church in the French city of Nice today.

The attack comes while France is still reeling from the beheading earlier this month of French middle school teacher Samuel Paty by a man of Chechen origin.

Since Paty’s killing, French officials — backed by many ordinary citizens — have re-asserted the right to display the cartoons, and the images have been widely displayed at marches in solidarity with the killed teacher.

That has prompted an outpouring of anger in parts of the Muslim world, with some governments accusing French leader Emmanuel Macron of pursuing an anti-Islam agenda.

In his writing today, Dr Mahathir also accused the Western world of trying to forcibly impose their moral values on others, which would deprive the freedom of those being forced.

“Generally, the west no longer adhere to their own religion. They are Christians in name only. That is their right.

“But they must not show disrespect for the values of others, for the religion of others. It is a measure of the level of their civilisation to show this respect,” he wrote.

In Malaysia, Muslim groups such as Islamist party PAS, moderate group Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM), and hardline grop Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) have called for the boycotting of goods from France.

Yesterday, Perikatan Nasional condemned Macron for choosing what it called “the path of religious chauvinism and intolerance”.

Similarly, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had on Tuesday said in response to Macron that freedom of speech is an essential value of Islam and the Muslim world does not need any more lectures about its significance, least of all from those who suffer from Islamophobia.

Nothing but hot air and virtue signalling to score points with their mostly Muslim electorate.

They should save their indignation for the day when France elects Le Pen into power.

It is OK for Muslims to murder and rape infidels including beheading. But no one can crticize Muslims.

Typical logic of a muslim, so far I have not seen a muslim taking responsiblity for any wrong doing by fellow muslim.

Beheading of infidels is promoted in the Koran and practise by very religious muslims from 7th century till 21st century.

God promises to "cast terror into the hearts of those who are bent on denying the truth; strike, then, their necks!" (Koran 8.12)
