Malaysia deports terror suspect linked to Jemaah Islamiah
JAKARTA: Malaysia has deported an Indonesian man linked to Jemaah Islamiah, a report said yesterday. Fadli Sadama arrived at Jakarta airport on Saturday evening under heavy guard, The Jakarta Post reported.
Sadama is suspected of having links with a Malaysian “terror” network and the Pattani United Liberation Organisation (PULO) separatist group in South Thailand, National Anti-Terror Agency (BNPT) director Petrus Golose was quoted as saying.
“Fadli planned to train... before returning to Indonesia to plot acts of terrorism in Pekanbaru, Riau province and in the Mount Anak Krakatau area with foreign tourists as his main target,” he added. Reports in Malaysia have said that Sadama was arrested on Oct 13 while travelling to Johor and was found to be carrying two guns.
Sadama is believed to be linked to a group suspected of killing a police officer in a bank robbery in Medan in August. The group is also connected to militants who were discovered training in Aceh province in February, leading to the killing and arrest of scores of suspects.
Robberies have been a source of funds for Islamist militants in Indonesia, which has been rocked by several deadly attacks, including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people, mainly Western tourists. —AFP
