Malaysia-China to jointly fight crime

PUTRAJAYA: Enforcement agencies in Malaysia and China have started working on strategies to jointly combat trans-border crimes after both countries inked an agreement on the matter, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

“The strategies would be discussed in a working group meeting to be held later this month in China.

“Both sides realise that trans-border crimes are threats that we have to face in the future and we need to be fully prepared,” he said after attending a two-hour meeting with the deputy director-general of the Inter-national Cooperation Department of the Public Security Ministry of China Zhang Jufen.

Hishammuddin said the preparation of the strategies would enable both countries to present clearer ideas on implementing the tasks outlined in the MoU.

He added that the Malaysian team would comprise the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim Radzi, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and Immigration director-general Datuk Alias Ahmad.

On Aug 2, Malaysia and China signed a Memorandum of Under- standing on tackling trans-border crimes that covers law enforcement, training, scientific research and exchange of technology.
