JOHOR BARU: A 24-year-old Indonesian maid was allegedly physically abused by her employers at a house in Taman D'Utama here.

The maid, known only as Marsini, suffered injuries to her body and face and is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

She had been working with her employers, a young married couple with a 9-month-old baby, for the past nine months before she lodged a report with two friends at the Nusajaya police headquarters on Sunday.

However, the case was transferred to the Taman Perling police station as it fell under the jurisdiction of the Johor Baru Utara police district.

In the report, the couple, identified as a car salesman and a teacher, both in their 20s, were alleged to have used hot water, a hot ladle, a golf stick and hockey stick to abuse the victim.

It is learnt that the alleged abuse would be instigated by the maid doing things like preparing meals unsatisfactorily and not doing household chores properly. Johor Baru Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Hassan said the case had been classified as causing hurt.

"The wounds sustained by the victim are consistent with that of abuse and we have identified the suspects," he said yesterday.

Ruslan said police had gone to the employers' house on two occasions, but found nobody there. It is believed the couple may have gone into hiding.

He said police had issued an all-points bulletin for the suspects and were confident of finding them soon.
